What the limits cover
Michigan requires drivers to carry 50/100/10 liability coverage at minimum. Each person hurt is covered for $50,000, everyone hurt in one crash for $100,000, and damage to other people's property for $10,000.
A newer car and medical bills often cost more than these limits. Amounts above those limits can be claimed from you. Because of that, many drivers buy 100/300/100 instead. The average liability policy in Michigan costs $831 a year.
If you drive uninsured
In Michigan, uninsured driving can cost you your license and registration. You may have to submit proof of insurance for several years to get them back.
