What the numbers cover
In Virginia, the required minimum for liability coverage is 50/100/25. Each person hurt is covered for $50,000, while all people hurt in a single crash are covered for $100,000. The remaining $25,000 limit applies to damage to other people's property.
The costs of medical bills and a newer car often exceed these coverage amounts. You may face claims for amounts above those limits, and many drivers buy 100/300/100 as a result. The average annual cost for a liability policy in Virginia is $691.
Driving without insurance
If you drive uninsured in Virginia, you may lose your license and registration. You may have to submit proof of insurance for several years to regain your license and registration.
