Which insurer is cheapest in California
California doesn’t publish an insurer price comparison, so official figures can’t rank every company in the state. The least expensive legal policy costs an average of $760 each year, or about $63 monthly (NAIC).
Get quotes from at least three insurers using the same limits and deductibles. For one driver, a direct writer, local agent and regional company often offer very different prices.
Ways to reduce your costs
- Keep the state minimum only on an old car you could replace with cash: dropping collision and comprehensive saves $930 a year on the California average.
- Raise your deductible. What you save in a year often beats the extra you would pay on one claim.
- Request every discount by name: bundling home and auto, multi-car, paying in full, good student, safe-driving apps.
- Compare prices again whenever your policy renews. One company’s price increase doesn’t mean other companies raised theirs too.
