What you still pay with the minimum
California sets minimum liability coverage of 30/60/15. Each injured person has a $30,000 limit. For everyone injured in one crash, the limit is $60,000. Damage to other people's property has a $15,000 limit.
Liability coverage pays the claims of other people. Unless you add collision, you pay for repairs to your own car.
Anything a crash costs beyond your limits may be claimed from you. Raising your limits usually costs much less than the extra protection it gives you.
