What you still pay under the minimum
At least 25/50/20 liability is required in Illinois. The limits include $25,000 for each person hurt and $50,000 for everyone injured in one crash. Damage to other people's property has a $20,000 limit.
The other people are the ones liability pays. You pay for repairs to your own car unless you add collision.
Any amount above your limits after a crash can be claimed from you. Buying higher limits usually costs far less than the extra protection you get.
