What you still pay with the minimum
In New Mexico, the minimum required liability is 25/50/10. The amounts are $25,000 per person hurt and $50,000 for everyone hurt in the same crash; $10,000 covers damage to other people's property.
Other people are the ones liability pays. You pay for repairs to your own car yourself, unless you add collision.
If the cost of a crash goes past your limits, the remaining amount can be claimed from you. Buying higher limits usually costs far less than the added protection you get.
