How it changes your rate
The filing costs little; what really lifts your premium is the offense behind it.
The rate guides we use for states show one at-fault accident raising a price about 1.5 times.
With the Alabama liability average at $631, that works out to about $946 a year.
Getting one
- Ask your insurer to submit the form to the state, and know that not every company will.
- Don't have a car? You can carry the filing on a non-owner policy.
- Keep paying for the policy. If the policy lapses, the state hears about it and the clock can start over.
