What every number pays for
The state of Louisiana requires liability coverage of at least 15/30/25. For each person hurt, the limit is $15,000. Everyone hurt in one crash is covered up to $30,000, and damage to other people's property up to $25,000.
A newer car and medical bills often go past what these limits pay. You can be asked to pay anything above these limits, so many drivers choose 100/300/100. The average liability policy in Louisiana runs $1,105 each year.
If you drive while uninsured
Drive uninsured in Louisiana and you can lose your license and registration. To recover them, you may have to turn in proof of insurance for several years.
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is where questions go.
