How it affects your price
The filing is cheap on its own; the offense behind it is what pushes your premium up.
The state rate guides we use show one at-fault accident raising the price about 1.5 times.
With the Louisiana liability average at $1,105, the figure would be about $1,657 a year.
Getting a filing
- Ask your insurer to send the form to the state, though not every company does.
- Don't have a car? The filing can appear on a non-owner policy.
- Keep your policy paid. The state is told about a lapse, which can start the clock again.
