How it affects your price
The filing costs little on its own; the offense behind it is what pushes up your premium.
One at-fault accident raises the price about 1.5 times in the state rate guides we use.
Applied to the Missouri liability average of $669, that comes to about $1,003 a year.
Getting one
- Ask your insurer to file it with the state; not every company does.
- Don't have a car? You can carry the filing on a non-owner policy.
- Keep payments on the policy current. A lapse gets reported to the state, and it can restart the clock.
