What each amount covers
In Massachusetts, you must carry liability of at least 25/50/30. Each person hurt is covered up to $25,000, all hurt in one crash up to $50,000, and damage to other people's property up to $30,000.
A newer car and medical bills often cost more than what these limits cover. Amounts beyond those limits can be claimed against you, so lots of drivers go with 100/300/100 instead. The average liability policy in Massachusetts costs $803 a year.
Driving with no insurance
Driving without insurance in Massachusetts can cost you your license and registration. Proof of insurance may have to be filed for several years to get them back.
Questions go to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV).
