What you still pay with the minimum
Massachusetts requires 25/50/30 liability coverage at minimum. It provides $25,000 per injured person and $50,000 for everyone injured in one crash. Damage to other people's property is covered up to $30,000.
Other people receive payment from liability coverage. Unless you add collision coverage, you pay for repairs to your own car.
If the cost of a crash goes past your limits, the difference can be claimed from you. The added cost of higher limits is usually far below the extra protection they provide.
