What the numbers pay for
In District of Columbia, drivers need at least 25/50/10 liability coverage. Each person hurt is covered for $25,000, everyone hurt in one crash for $50,000, and damage to other people's property for $10,000.
These limits often fall short of medical bills and the cost of a newer car. Above those limits, amounts can be claimed from you, which is why many drivers buy 100/300/100 instead. A liability policy in District of Columbia costs $978 a year on average.
Driving with no insurance
Drive uninsured in District of Columbia and you risk losing your license and registration. Getting both back may mean filing proof of insurance for several years.
