How it affects your price
The filing itself is cheap; what raises the premium is the offense behind it.
One at-fault accident increases a price about 1.5 times in the state rate guides we use.
The District of Columbia liability average sits at $978, so the yearly price would be about $1,467.
Getting a filing
- Ask your insurance company to submit the form to the state, as some companies won't.
- Without a car? A non-owner policy can include the filing.
- Maintain payment on your policy. The state gets notice of any lapse, and that can reset the clock.
